Hi Jynergiser,

If you doing your binding your data in the runtime. You can follow the following code.

At the time of binding the data. Say if ds is the dataset you are binding. And 
tables(0) is the datatable which u are binding.

Then check like this

             if ds.tables(0).rows.count = 0 then
                    'add the code to display the message
             else
                    ' bind the datagrid with the data set
                    ' if dg is the datagrid
                    dg.datasource = ds.tables(0)
                    dg.databind()
             end if
