Serializing dataset into XML is not a good idea. You can set the cookie 
munching, 
i.e. setting cookieless = true. This way, you dont need to worry, if user might 
have blocked the cookies.

                but cookies are not safe...
                plus many users might have blocked cookies in their 
                browser...
                 
                of course using session is bulky... but on the other hand 
                we can clear the session, once after our need is fulfilled, 
                rite...
                 
                or we can get the xml of the dataset... store it in the 
                applications root folder with the session id as name of the xml 
                file... n get it in the next page... delete it when the session 
                expired...
