Hi all,

We've got a job opening in our team, and we use a lot of Ruby, so I wanted to make sure any job hunters in the group are aware of it. We're building a new line of disk storage products and we need a kick- butt engineer that can cover stuff from systems-level to Rails.

Description is attached. Go here for the post and online application (job 105):

(Does that URL make you itch? That's a good sign.)

Best regards,
Josh

--cut here--

Do you love the smell of good code in the morning? Do you itch if you haven't solved a tough problem lately? If so, keep reading.

Spectra Logic is designing highly-configurable, application-rich storage systems. Our department has a smart, highly motivated team that's one engineer short. Craft your resume to our description and be able to back it up in person.

A successful applicant will:

 * Have 5 + yrs experience as a Software Engineer.

* Have solid C or C++ experience. You have to know it cold, this is not a learn-as-you-go position.

* Have solid experience beyond C or C++: Ruby, Python, Scala, or another modern language. You will need to master Ruby if you haven't already.

* You need to be extremely competent in at least two of these areas, and you should have heard of all of them:
    * Virtualization
    * Cluster or cloud computing
    * iSCSI
    * CIFS/SMB/NFS
    * Linux/Unix/Solaris administration

* Show proven experience doing things you have not done before. You'll need it.

* Communicate well. You will need to express yourself clearly in writing, in person and in your code.

* Take constructive criticism well and interact professionally in design and code reviews.

* Demonstrate a passion for your career and the quality of your work. It matters to us and it should matter to you.

* Be a self-starter and have a can-do attitude. We are defining a new product and you need to be capable of research, invention and development.

We will offer you:

 * A fun, fast-paced working environment.

 * An opportunity to learn new things and stretch your abilities.

 * Pay commensurate with experience.

A Final Note:

We get a rather lot of resumes. The people spamming us have already hit "send." But for you, put the return value of this expression on the top of your resume and you'll go to the top of the pile.

def foo
  @@seed ||= 1
  @@seed = 7**5 * @@seed % 128
end

[75, -12, 45, 11, 34, 29, 14].map { |c| c + foo }.inject(String.new) { |s,c| s << c }
