I've been a software developer for a long time, and have been using Ruby for about 5 years. I have several open source projects, and contribute patches to FOSS projects about once a month. More details: http://www.contextualdevelopment.com/labs/ I'm currently looking to hire a full-time Ruby developer to work on a client's Ruby on Rails application. Although you need to be in the local area, this position will mostly be a telecommuting opportunity. We'll do daily stand-up meetings over the phone, and occasionally get together for face-to-face meetings. Of course, good communicating skills are required. I won't be dropping a project in your lap, we'll be working together and there will be plenty of opportunities for mentoring. Full disclosure: pmade inc. is a very small company.
