that mainly works in Ruby. 

We have a Rails application space and lots of random tools in different 
languages and environments.

This is a very fast-paced space vehicle operations context, so we need someone 
with lots of energy to bring to the team. There's lots of interesting subject 
matter and cool folks around.

Plusses would be: Experience working with GIS/Remote Sensing data and map 
projections, understanding of space vehicle operations context, experience with 
scientific data visualization languages like IDL, Matlab, Octave, etc.

Summary
We have an opening for a Software Engineer to assist in developing software 
tools and systems to support users in a dynamic Space Mission Operations 
environment.
 
The ideal candidate will have experience building dynamic web applications with 
the Ruby On Rails framework as well as interacting with GIS databases such as 
PostGIS and Oracle Spatial. The main workload of this position involves 
building rich web user experiences using Javascript/HTML/CSS and Ruby On Rails 
to deliver Satellite Collection Planning tools directly to users in a Satellite 
Ground Systems context.  The successful engineer can implement a customer's 
software vision with little direction and short timelines.
 
Responsibilities
·         Develop tools and software to support emerging operational needs of 
the collection planning department
·         Work collaboratively with other engineers to design optimal 
solutions, balancing quick-hit code development with high availability, 
optimally coded systems
·         Engage operators to understand specific requirements and use cases 
for tools developed
·         Engage IT engineers to plan for hardware implementation, 
configuration, and maintenance
·         Comply with System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process requirements 
and participate in efforts to streamline, improve, and optimize the SDLC
·         Provide occasional support outside of business hours as required to 
support a 24/7 Space Mission Operations environment
 
Requirements
·         Ruby On Rails framework experience
·         Highly skilled in programming with dynamic languages. Prefer 
experience with Ruby and Perl.
·         Experience writing Javascript. Familiarity with current Javascript 
Toolkits (jQuery, EXTJs, OpenLayers, etc.)
·         Capable of programming in structured programming languages. Prefer 
experience with C++ and Java.
·         User Experience (UX) engineering skills.
·         Demonstrate understanding of web application programming protocols, 
tools and practices.
·         Good working understanding of Relational Database Management Systems.
·         Comfortable operating in UNIX/Linux environments.
·         Proven ability to solve complex engineering problems.
·         Experience working with common GIS/Remote Sensing data formats.
·         Ideally, working with PostgreSQL/PostGIS and Oracle, common Open 
Source GeoSpatial software such as GDAL, and extensive experience with shell 
programming.
·         US Citizen
·         Must be able to obtain USG TS/SCI clearance, preferably possessing 
active clearance at time of hire
 
Skills and Experience
·         Familiarity with common System Engineering practices
·         Familiarity with Classified operations and associated requirements
·         Familiarity with commercial satellite Imagery industry
