Boulder Rubyists, Thanks for hosting Frank Webber and so many of our students at the last meeting. I'm not sure if I heard more comments about how much fun they had or how good Pivotal's catering was.
But I write on business -- a reverse job post, for once! Our gSchool program is in it's final stages and we're working to find our students great jobs. The program is a six-month, full-time class running from January through July 19th. We have 23 students, most of whom had no programming background, but by July will be professional developers. Our definition of a professional developer is a person who can take business needs and turn them into working code. We've got many companies outside Colorado coming in to meet with and hire the graduates, but I'd like to see more representation of companies here. There are a few ways for you to get involved: Tomorrow, May 23rd, the students will demo their FeedEngine projects. It's a three week project focused on consuming and providing APIs built in teams of four. * Register to attend: https://tito.io/jumpstart-lab/gschool-demo-feedengine-project * Base Assignment: http://tutorials.jumpstartlab.com/projects/feed_engine.html * Per-Group Customized Concepts: http://tutorials.jumpstartlab.com/projects/feed_engine_concepts.html Looking forward, we'll have demos of their individual projects on 6/6, a SOA-focused group project on 6/27, and finally their Mastery Project on 7/18. In addition, we're putting together an event we're calling the Expo on 7/11 & 7/12: a two-day code-retreat + speed-interview. In the mornings, engineers from potential hiring companies will pair with students in quick 30-minute programming exercises. In the afternoon, students will setup demos of their work and visitors will rotate through on a timed schedule. I'd love to have you join us! If you're interested in being on our "friends of the program" list for potential hiring, please shoot me an email. Lastly, we're still new around here. If anyone's irritated by this post or potential future posts, please let me know. I'll probably send one email for each of those four remaining events over the next two months. Thanks, Jeff PS: Apologies to those of you who are on multiple email lists in our area and will see this more than once :) --- Jeff Casimir Principal, Jumpstart Lab http://jumpstartlab.com
