At the August meeting, we had a speaker give a talk about very
personal issues, rather than the talk I had originally invited him to
give. Sometimes a speaker wants to change their talk, and I will
usually allow this, provided that it is still useful to the group. I
found out about the change and the general topic the night before the
meeting and while it was very different for what we usually had, I
couldn't think of a good reason to refuse the change.

It has been brought to my attention that some attendees felt very
uncomfortable with this talk to where it crossed the line. As I was
unfamiliar with the talk's content, I did not know where it would go.
Had I known the full extent of the talk and its background, I would
not have allowed it. I am deeply sorry and will make sure that
something like this doesn't happen again. We strive for our meetings
to be inclusive and welcoming and I feel like we took a step back that
night.

Sincerely,
Marty
