Howdy... I'm behind a firewall, so no chat ability. I am trying to get
up and going using the angstrom images.

Reading through the various wiki pages, it looks like I have to use a
linux distribution with fdisk to correctly format the SD card for
angstrom? Is this correct? Do you know if there is a windows tool that
will do the same thing? Is there a version of linux that you would
recommend - my dell laptop does not have a ton of space left, and the
old beater PCs that I have are even worse...

There is a windows tool to partition the card. I'm not sure of the links are still around. (People spent a lot of time figuring out how to do the partitioning in Linux due to some issues) Also, getting windows to recognize the ext2/3 file system is tricky. I've heard how you might do it, but have never heard of anyone trying :)

I'm a Fedora user, but lots of people like Ubuntu. Basically, yo ucan try vmware, but most of the people guys (but not all) are Linux only, so it is hard to answer questions about Beagle and windows.

You should also try general beagle questions on the beagle list. There might be some people there who can help you.

The subject line says it all.... I have just bought a BB (rev B5) with the intention to use it for signal processing (SDR), but I am unable to find the basic documentation for the very few initial
steps.
I still have to power it on for the first time, as before I would like to know a bit more about it.

- Does it have a sort of monitor program preloaded ?
- If yes, which commands does it accepts ?
- Where can I find a compiler/assembler for it ?
- How can I download to it a compiled binary ?
- etc. etc. etc.

What I have unable to find so far is a step-by-step guide to get me started with the BB, which looks like an interesting piece of hardware for what I am intending to do.
It looks like there's some good information here:

    http://beagleboard.org/support/faq

Which also links here:

Hope this helps.

I'm an Angstrom/OpenEmbedded guy. The quickest way to get going putting
Koen's Angstrom images on a SD card.

I'm on #beagle if you have any questions.
