Yeah, not being able to netboot because of initrd is false as far as I know. It used to be in order to boot iSCSI you had to use initrd.
Perhaps upstart is incapable of supporting netboot ? I honestly dont know. You know those uEnv.txt file boot parameters look very familiar . . . If you're copying from my blog on embeddedhobbyist.com, they wont work with Ubuntu.
