if your script compiles without errors, then this error usually means
you forgot to include the content-type header:

#!/usr/bin/perl
print "hello world<br>";
exit();

will compile, but will not send output to the browser.

#!/usr/bin/perl
print "Content-type:  text/html\n\n";
print "hello world<br>";
exit();

will compile and run in a browser.
