LWP::Simple's getstore() method takes a URL and a file as arguments. You've given it a URL and a directory. Try something like this: getstore("$URL", "/var/www/html/$remote_user/foo"); (Note that it may seem obvious to use $URL as the filename, but this won't work well -- urls are full of slashes, which will look like a nested directory tree to your script.
