Hi Jeremy,

thanks for reaching out and a happy new year! :)

Yes, Etoys is currently not actively supported. In Squeak 6, "Extras > Themes & Colors > Set Etoys Mode" can be used to play around with Etoys to some extent. Older tutorials and demos should best be tried out in the last officially released Etoys 5 such as via https://etoys.squeak.org/ (using SqueakJS).

If you suspect a more generic bug in Squeak, you can also post it on bugs.squeak.org.

So, Etoys got never actually fully ported to Squeak 6. In Squeak 5.2, we "ported" all the changes from Etoys 5 back to main Squeak because some improvements also affected the base system. There was also the attempt to use project loading to test ImageSegments and related features.

Yet, there is always the chance to get these bugs fixed by reaching out to this list. It makes sense to also post to squeak-dev these days to reach more people.

Kind regards,
Marcel

I had a long thoughtful email to report things and muse on others but I'm never sure how much this stuff is read and I hate consistently looking 'too damn enthusiastic' in front of meloncholic folks who only keep things running out of spite sometimes...thus...TL:DR version of the 4 times rewritten message:

Etoys in Squeak 6 has weird bugs I tried to figure out but couldn't so I'll continue to make projects in Etoys5 vanilla while reporting my findings when/if I get inclination to poke around in Squeak 6's (apparently incomplete) port of Etoys.

Bug 1: Hands object apparently doesn't get constructed properly to catch whatever info it needs when opening an Etoys Viewer Flap for any Playfield (read: PasteUpMorph..?). It is similar to the generic Etoys errors thrown when trying to get flaps on non etoys morphs, seems also probably related to color, since colors are very different too.

Bug 2:  Heading and Heading Direction angles clip to 45 degree angles for no reason in the Etoys scriptor. However, actual rotation of the object reflects correct heading. In other words, Heading of 64 makes object rotate visually to 64 degrees but travel at 45 degrees because the angle is clipped somehow.
