Maybe one of the techs at your provider got smart and dissables the SSI
exec command altogether. The less processes running, the better it is for
security and performance in general.
Try using <!--#include virtual="/home/homepage/cgi-bin/counter.pl"-->
instead, altough you may need to rename it to counter.cgi for the server
to run it then. This is much safer for everyone, and it should still work.
At first glance (at 12:32AM mind you) the code seems to be okay. Do you
think it would be possible to get a clipping from the error_log, that
might help indicate what the problem is.
