Trailing spaces ... aka rtrim();

I wish to remove trailing spaces..

use strict ;
my $line  ;
while (<>)  {
chomp $_ ;
$line =~ s/\s+$//; #  remove trailing spaces
print " $line \n";
}

My output is equal number of blank lines..

Where is my error?
