I want to make a CGI that grabs the top few headlines from major (or not) news sites such as the new york times and cnn, and places them as hyperlinks on my web page. I know there is a lot of stuff out there to do this, but I'm doing this as a learning excercise, so I'd like to know if anyone has any ideas on doing this from scratch or knows of existing code which is very simple.
