This is called inplace editing Possible but not recommended.
do this
{
local(@ARGV) = ($file);
$^I='.BAK'; # see perdoc perlvar
while(<>){
# Do edit here
s/\s+$/\n/; # For eg Trim all extra spaces in the end
print; # Dont forget this
}
}
