There are 2 ways of getting BeleniX on USB key. One is usbdump which is the equivalent of a livecd but on a USB key. The other is actually running the installer and installing to USB attached storage. From what you have mentioned, I can see that you have used usbdump. This is basically a liveusb that does not partition the storage. You can store whatever you want in /.cdrom but settings are not preserved since home directory is in ramdisk. Session persistence feature was implemented but not yet integrated into the distro. In addition support is needed with the usbdump case to run custom scripts at boot. All these things should be in the upcoming 0.7.2 release. You can try using the installer to actually install to an USB attached key, though we haven't yet experimented with that approach so you will have to try it out and see how it goes.
