I was impressed with Belenix 0.6.1 and decided to install it to the hdd. The entire hdinstaller process went smoothly, until i rebooted the system. the grub entry does not boot up, and this error shows up
multiboot is longer used to boot the Solaris Operating System The Grub entry should be changed to: kernel$ /platform/i86/pc/kernel/$ISADIR/unix module$ /platform/i86pc/$ISADIR/boot_archive See http://www.sun.com/msg/SUNOS-8000-AK for details. Press any key to reboot i edited the grub entry as instructed and then i got this error. Booting Command-list root (hd0,0,a) Filesystem type is ufs, partition type 0xbf kernel$ /platform/i86pc/kernel/$ISADIR/unix loading '/platform/i86pc/kernel/$ISADIR/unix'... cpu: 'GenuineIntel' family 15 model 2 step 9 amd64: CPU does NOT support long mode amd64: CPU does NOT support amd64 executables. module$ /platform/i86pc/$ISADIR/boot_archive loading '/platform/i86pc/$ISADIR/boot_archive' ... Error 20: Multiboot kernel must be loaded before modules Press any key to continue... i then spent considerable time searching the net, and (notably) found this one entry: http://mail.opensolaris.org/pipermail/belenix-discuss/2007-July/000145.html i read through the whole post and tried every possible combination root (hd0,0,a) kernel$ /platform/i86/pc/kernel/$ISADIR/unix module$ /platform/i86pc/$ISADIR/boot_archive root (hd0,0,a) kernel /platform/i86/pc/kernel/unix module /platform/i86pc/boot_archive root (hd0,0,a) kernel /platform/i86/pc/multiboot kernel/unix module /platform/i86pc/boot_archive root (hd0,0,a) kernel$ /platform/i86/pc/kernel/unix module /platform/i86pc/boot_archive and every other possible combination... :( with no success. then i decided to try the grub command line, and here is what i got: grub> find /boot/grub/stage1 (hd0,0,a) grub> root (hd0,0,a) Filesystem type is ufs, partition type 0xbf grub>kernel /platform/i86pc/multiboot kernel/unix [Multiboot-elf, <0xc00000:0x4dd2:0x8ac2>, shtab=0xc0e1e0, entry=0xc00000] //what does this mean? grub>module /platform/i86pc/boot_archive grub>boot pressing any key reboots the system, as i expected. is there any solution to this problem? im not comfortable with using an operating system from a LiveCD. I like my OS to be installed on the hdd. I have no other OS at the moment as i dedicated the entire disk to BeleniX. Any help would be greatly appreciated. -- Solaris is simple.
