Foss.in (http://foss.in/2007/info/Home) one of the well known open
source conferences is happening during 4-Dec to 8-Dec this year. The
conference this time is across 5 days spanning 2 project days and 3
conference days.

Below is a draft proposal to be submitted for a Belenix/OpenSolaris
project day at foss.in/2007
Some inputs before you go through the it:
* Foss.in project days will provide 1day or 0.5 day per project
* The proposal below plans for 1day, meaning 7 hours
Guidelines provided by foss.in team is as below
* 7 hours per project day.
* Atleast one talk Project status and future direction.
* Upto 2 workshops on key technologies used by the project or on
expanding the project
* Atleast one session about contribution guidelines.

Incase any of the below topics is more relevant for the main
conference, then we can push it there instead of here.
This proposal will stay on this list for any *quick comments*.

will happen.
At this stage it will still be a draft. We have time till 28-August to
finalize on it.

1. OpenSolaris/Belenix introduction
* Audience : Suitable for newcomers to experts
* Duration : 1hour
Content
* How has OpenSolaris evolved since it came into existence
* How things work at opensolaris.org
o the different processes a contributor needs to know
o what are the priorities that the contributions are
measured against as seen on the discussion lists & how decision making
works
* .....Add other relevant sub-heads here
2. Belenix
* Audience : Will need good awareness regarding versioning,
packaging, LiveCD, etc.
* Duration : 1.5hours
Content
* Stock taking of the current status
* Future plans
* Areas of involvement possible
(contribution possibilities landscape - linked to belenix future plans)
* Mechanisms to get involved
3. Contributing to OpenSolaris/Belenix
* Audience : Newcomer to experienced
* Duration : 1.5hours
Content
* Issues to keep in mind while authoring apps intended to work on
posix like systems
o Posix/OpenSolaris/Linux - where the differences lie for a developer
o Compiler toolset - GCC/SunStudio - where the differences
lie for a developer
* Packaging - what needs to be done to provide a build recipe to a user
(aligned with the way Belenix will put a process in place for
contribution)
4. OpenSolaris development environment
* Audience : Suitable for all type of audience
* Duration : 45minutes
Content
* What is available, how to use, where to get.
* Setting up pre-requisites (CBEs) for different consolidations. etc.
5. Elaboration on the topics of the contribution areas
* Audience : Suitable for people who are hands on with different
contribution areas. Discussion is likely to be quite technical in
nature.
* Duration : 1.5hours
Content
* Will depend on the earlier belenix topic
Intention : Identify potential contributors, Have a bof, in one of the
subsequent foss.in days, get people to know other belenix team members
from the Belenix stall (yes we will be setting up one again
this year)
6. DEMOS
* Duration : 45mins
* Specifics and the sequence are to be decided.
* Is it best if interspersed with the other topics ???
(there will anyway be demos in the stalls!)
