A known technique is to monitor a remote address and to switch over network routes. I know how this is done with a Cisco firewall, I'm reading the IPMP documentation and the Crossbow documentation to find out how to achieve this on opensolaris. I suspect that this will involve a mix of crossbow + routing + ipf -- Sriram
