I don't know if it's related or not, but our Baloo (age 7 yrs) reacts
strangely to (some) sounds also. He will be sleeping and, all of a sudden,
bolt up and run to either my husband or me for "protection". We finally tied
these episodes to noises - usually a whirring noise similar to a 2 cycle
engine, motorcycle, or GIGANTIC bug ;-0 Don't know what he thinks it is, but
he is SURE it will get him.
We just assure him that everythign is OK and tell him what a good, brave
boy he is (ha!), and he goes back to sleep... until the next time.

I am wondering if folks have any other ideas? Do older dogs in general get
more noise sensitive?
