Hi Sherri, Could be a nasty bruise, is it tender? Does he flinch if you poke it? Don't have to be VWD to bruise easy, I believe low blood calcium causes easy bruising in humans?
You could ice pack with frozen peas for a few minutes at a time and keep him quiet, if it continues to worsen then have it checked. If there is any surface distortion then have it biopsied. Dogs can get melanomas. Rose
