The Bernese breed originated in the Berner Oberland ...a farming and trade region with a very moderate climate. When I was there in February...the rolling hills (not mountains) were still pretty much green and the impatiens still blooming where protected underneath yews. A dusting of snow overnight is common but likely to melt during the day.
Overall, this area is very moderate (much like our dogs! <g>) ...not at all the harsh wind, biting cold, and soaring granite peaks, of the Alps. -Sherri Venditti
