Fact of the Day: potato chip The potato chip has an interesting history. Potato chips originated at the Moon Lake Lodge in Saratoga Springs, New York in 1853 and were known as Saratoga chips. George Crum, a Native American chef working at the Moon Lake Lodge, became frustrated with a diner who kept sending back the French fries complaining they were too thick. To get back at the diner, Crum decided to slice the fries extremely thin and fry them crisp so that the diner could not use a fork to eat them. The plan backfired when the diner thought they were the best thing he had ever tasted. Other diners began to request the new snack, and the popularity of potato chips has continued ever since. Potato chips have become America's favorite snack food. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
