I want to backtest a 40 stock portfolio for a month or so. There are
only two ways that I know how to accomplish this. I could
progressively edit out the most recent entries in historical files
for each of the 40 stocks, which for a 22 day period would require
880 edits and result in the like number of individual files (in 22
different folders). Or, I could generate EOD files for this group of
stocks that extend back in time at least the backtest period earlier
than the earliest date to test.

I chose the second method, but have run into a snag. B-C doesn't
read the EOD files that I created just for my 40 stock portfolio (a
couple dozen so far). It reads individual EODs and portfolio EODs
that have the entire exchange included, but not the EODs of just my
portfolio stocks. Neither the individual, nor the portfolio analysis
works with these files. Filepath is not the problem, because I don't
receive a file not found error, just a blank area where the analysis
should be. I have also been very careful to use the accepted format
which is (as I understand it)-

Symbol,Date,Open,High,Low,Close,Volume
aaii,20041022,1.64,1.7,1.6,1.65,211100
acs,20041022,54.87,54.87,52.31,52.85,4851700
adct,20041022,2.22,2.25,2.12,2.16,8518800
etc...

There is also no weird ending line, like in typical Yahoo downloads,
that can crash the program. Am I doing something stupid here, beyond
simply not having a life?

PS Hi, glad to have found this program, and this group. Thanks for
the info you guys are sharing.
