Thanks for the advice, I backed up the entire slimserver directory onto a DVD to be on the safe side, but it all ran without a problem.
Installed 6.2 over the top of the previous one and all of the settings are the same including AlienBBC and it is running just as smoothly as before, but without the volume problems! Many Thanks!
