And it still does, as you've offered no reason why it's not.
If you can begin playback of a stream, sending the replaygain values so that the firmware can apply them to the output, I don't see why you can't just as easily do this when you jump to another place within a track and begin again. Now, if you tell me that the architecture of SlimServer makes this much more difficult than it should be, I'd believe you. Looking at the bugzilla dialog for 'bug 2289' (http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2289) it looks like someone began to look into the issue, then it faded away after a couple days. Nothing to indicate that it's some sort of impossible task.
