I wonder if my using the Windows Services applet's 'Restart' is a 
problem.  Could it be that it stops and starts the service too quickly,
so that the scanner isn't propertly notified and shut down?

In any case, it shouldn't matter if the scanner continues to run
without SlimServer also running.  Not if you can supposedly run the
scanner by itself on another machine.  Shutting down the scanner is
probably the best behavior to take when SlimServer is shut down, but it
shouldn't cause issues if it doesn't happen.

It just seems to need a bit more foolproof way of knowing whether
another scan is already running.
