>You aren't screwed, but I would recommend not doing that anymore. > I agree with Dan - it is better that Slimserver expects all tracks on a various artist album to be in one folder. The Greatest Hits issue was horrible before - doing away with that is a really good thing.
I'm intruiged to know what Dan means by "you aren't screwed" though - is there an easy way for users to correct the albums? There may be a few users that have VA albums split over several folders. I think I have a few multidisk VA albums where there are sub-folders for each disk. I haven't checked, but I think slimserver is working correctly for these albums (treating multi-disk albums as a single album). If not, I will have to move all disks/tracks into a single folder, which will also mean that I will change the filenames to force a filesystem sort order (eg. "01 - 02 - title.flac" for disk 1, track 2). Dan - does Slimserver guess that sub-folders within a VA album folder are part of the same album? iTunes is rubbish in the way it can be configured (the default setting?) to store the tracks under artist/album. When my wife started to use iTunes, I discovered that it automatically rearranged my music collection into this structure, and it was a nightmare. There would be follow-on problems, such as: 1) where to look for artwork 2) if you don't want the album on your disk anymore, you have to delete tracks from several folders. 3) if you want to manually convert a VA album from one format to another to stick on a portable device. >>This never used to be the case, so what changed? >It has always been the case, afaik. > I think we used to have a greatest hits problem, and now that has been fixed some users will have an issue with VA albums where they are spread over multiple folders (I think it worked before if the album name wasn't in the list of common album names). It is a change, but I think a necessary and correct one. Phil _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/beta
