I've been battling a problem similar to this for over a year, most recently tracked under bug number 3930. The descriptions of the problem sure sound familiar. At the moment the bug status is marked "Resolved" because Andy can't recreate the problem. The leading theory among the SlimDevices folks is that it's a problem with my Mac Mini system.
I just don't buy that theory. I've done extensive diagnostics on the system, and it appears to be OK. The only process that has a problem is SlimServer. When it hangs it takes certain parts of the filesystem with it, in the sense that it locks up access to the filsystem so I can't even do things like a Save out of TextEdit, or open a Finder window on a folder (local or network). Yet I can fire up a new browser instance and do other things. The thing that looks so similar here is the behavior that it won't let you shut down the old and start a new process. On the Mac this means a reboot is necessary. The most recent detective work I've done is scan all the logs I can find on the system for any other apparent correlated issue or process (like a virus scan). Can't find anything. Also, for me this problem didn't start happening just with the move to MySQL - it was there in 6.3, 6.2, and even earlier. Interestingly, the frequency with which the problem occurs appears to correlate, loosely, to: -- The size of the shuffled playlist - larger list, freeezes more often -- Switching between playlists But even when I boot up fresh and continue playing an already-shuffled playlist, it will eventually freeze up. I wish there was a way I could keep it from reshuffling the playlist when it restarts, so I could test what happens when it has done no shuffling at all, and continues playing the list after a reboot. I've got "Maintain Client Playlists" set to "Remember Playlist" and "Reshuffle on Repeat" set to "Leave in Same Order," but this doesn't appear to bring the desired behavior after a restart. -- MikeGilpin ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MikeGilpin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=909 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27437 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/beta
