The current status is that it is still as broken as it was when 6.5.0 was released. As such, it remains disabled to avoid the number of basic functions that won't work correctly. The original author is just too busy of late to give it the time it needs. It is, however, enabled in the 7.0 builds for anyone who wishes to tackle fixes. Beware that there are already some significant change in 7.0 regarding debug options, setup pages and plugins. You will have to be prepared to deal with those complications.
