That's odd. Can you open your server's registry and see whether there's a  
value for
LMachine/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/Shell  
Folders/Common AppData ?

So you're seeing different results on different machines? Are you using  
core installs on both of them?

Core probably doesn't initialize those registry keys, as there's no  
Explorer running? You should still be able to install using the  
--prefsdir/cachedir etc. options.
