Syncing with SoftSqueeze (SQ) is rather a hit-and-miss affair. Sometimes it works perfectly, sometimes it is worse than useless, and often it is poor. The main problem is that SQ needs to ask the underlying audio library for information about how much audio has been played so far. It wants this information very accurately: better that 30ms and really better than 10ms is needed. Actually the accuracy is not so important, just the consistency. A constant offset can be configured using the player-preferences (see Settings / Player / <player> / Audio). The server has a consistency algorithm which can work around some lack of consistency to a limit of around +/- 50ms, maybe less. How consistent the results are depends upon: the operating system, the audio subsystem (for example on Linux, ALSA vs. OSS vs. pulseaudio/JACK) and the specific sound-card drivers and the sound-card itself. I've had it working fine on a Win-XP laptop and an old Linux box (Fedora 4/ALSA/SB-Live!) but it is barely usable on my newer Linux box (Fedora 7 / ALSA / Realtek ALC883). As the good ol' saying goes: your mileage may vary. -- awy ------------------------------------------------------------------------ awy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7480 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42531 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/beta
