A couple of points: I have been working with SqueezePlay (SP) audio on Linux. I have implemented the various sync-related protocol enhancements. Sync playback works well for me but subject to many of the usual caveats with regard to synchronization and software players.
I recently fixed a problem with FLAC playback when the buffer is not kept resasonably supplied, such as with transcoding of a radio stream (AlienBBC is the prime example). This could cause high CPU use.
