That explains a lot. The curious question is what changed that this wasn't really happening with earlier versions of 7.3, or earlier releases.
You solution seems reasonable. I don't really know enough about threading in Perl/SC to comment on how you'd implement it, so I'll leave that in your hands ;-) Hope it can be done reasonably, this is one of my mostest favorite plugins.
