I think I am seeing something similar - having been having real problems getting SC 7.4 to start on an XP build after v24777 (28 Jan). I believe this is around the time when the startup options were changed on 7.4. v24777 works consistently, but later builds will not start up, unless I do a completely fresh install (inc. deleting all prefs). Even then, later versions will regularly not start up once plugins are installed and prefs configured. If I start with a fresh prefs file, it works ok, but as soon as I configure it as I would normally do, I start running into problems (but I can't work out what particularly is causing it)
The windows event viewer shows an error in SC startup as follows: "The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( Application ) cannot be found.
