Themis, you are correct. The WHS add-in does NOT auto-update, but it auto-downloads and alerts there is a new version.
I don't think I've seen any third party add-ins that actually auto-update. The WHS, being server software, is architected to require uninstall and reinstall rather than in-place update (although I wish it were otherwise).
