Yes, it appears there will be no upgrade from WHS v1 to Vail. So many aspects are different - the Drive Extender technology is vastly different, the add-in architecture is completely revamped. Anyone wanting to go from 1 to 2 will need to do a complete reinstall.
Bob Muglia (VP of MS Server and Tools) said last week that WHS v2 would be shipping this year.
