Apparently you've not been reviewing the financial releases, and the unmitigated disaster the Revue has been. bits;644989 Wrote: > > ...There is now more players, coming out much faster than ever before. > Huh? bits;644989 Wrote: > > I don't see Logitech exiting the networked media player market. Problem is... it is becoming ubiquitous (i.e., a commodity market), with razor-thin margins. It is a me-too item. The SB product line requires a) heavy R&D resources, b) high-margins. bits;644989 Wrote: > > It appears they are moving towards the industry standard upnp for > better or worse and including image and video support. The masses do not support server-based, complex solutions. So you're left w/under-powered devices (like tinySB). bits;644989 Wrote: > > I'm sure Logitech have plenty of staff(or contractors) to create new > hardware when it is time for a refresh. This is entirely wishful thinking, and ignores the complexities of hardware development. There is long lead times to new hardware development, from sourcing components, to FCC approval, build-out, stocking. bits;644989 Wrote: > > Cant a device hang around for longer than 12 months now? :p No. The market won't allow this. Others are busy at work, creating new products. And idle company is a dead company. Look - Logitech is a Mouse, Keyboard, and Speaker company. It is not a large software house, nor geared towards handling more complex eco-systems. These require... again... require much higher margins and increasing volumes for the product line. It isn't there. -- MrC ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MrC's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=468 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89143 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
