yes, Auto-dimming is selected.  when i choose a minimal brightness
setting, the actual brightness of the display does not change as i
adjust the knob.  and, when room lighting conditions change, the scree
brightness stays the same, always 100%.

the only way screen brightness will actually change is if i choose
manual brightness.
