i'm not sure what you mean; are you using the latest EAC?

the AA field and composer field are part of the normal GUI, and the
user can fill them in pre-rip. also, as i added later, you can use an
online source that fills them in as well, it doesn't have to be freedb.
i'm not sure freedb works by default either, i think you have to give
your email or something at the very least, and configure it a bit to be
automatic, etc.

in any case, i didn't have to do anything but fill in the fields to get
EAC to add those tags.

thats true, assuming the user hasn't edited their tags to be
consistent. but they are great for searches regardless.

i have sloppy composer tags, but the "correct" way as in legally
speaking to use the tag would be to credit the songwriters, ie. those
getting the royalty checks. of course that itself can be thorny, since
you can have division between those writing lyrics, and those writing
music.

some of mine are band names, some individuals, some both, some are
incorrect but i use to link to the "main" artist associated with the
song, some use the word "cover" in them to be useful in searches,
etc... but to me, its a great tag for saying "this other entity is
associated with this song."

i can't speak to the 7.5 / 7.6 issue specifically, but it absolutely
seems that differing preferences and styles of browsing, beyond what a
simple toggle switch can accommodate, should be realized. perhaps
specific links like what erland said would be a way to go.
