I can't get 7.9 starting on OSX 10.6.8.
Hmm... I'm developing on OSX myself and haven't seen this issue yet. Are you using any 3rd party plugins?

Could you please open /Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/server/Slim/Utils/Misc.pm in TextEdit, go to line 840 and change the ISWINDOWS to ISMAC and try to start again?
