All for these ideas as optional features. As an alternative, what if each playlist remembered it's last play position (at least track, preferable track and time). If you had a specific named playlist, and an alarm started, replacing that playlist, you could select to play the playlist again later, and resume from last position. A bit like iTunes/iPod podcast handling. I think there was a plugin that added this, or at least it was mentioned.
I think there was also a plugin to remember the last few playlists played on each player. That dates back a while, not sure it still exists. or works.
