While it is great to be discussing Blender's UI, I would hope that it may be acceptable to put Mr. Roosendaal's recent comment on a request at the top of the page:
"Instead of explaining why you need it, or calling it "better" or "more useful", just write down a neutral and very precise specification of how it looks." As we can see from this brief thread, words like "obvious", "good", "better", etc. are without context and of relatively worthless value with regards to Blender's UI discussion.
