I would be inclined to have an option to automatically launch a "F6 popup widget" at mouse position, because it doesn't get any closer than that.
And I agree with Knapp: we should be able to move and close it, because quite often we need to rotate the view and review the result before accepting the operation. Right now it feels a bit silly having to rotate view, press F6, zoom view, press F6, etc... :D Maybe it could be an addon. Regards.
