I think it might be easier to come up with classes and then characters
who have intersections of those classes. For instance, there could be
three broad types of modus operandi:
1) Slayer: just kill them and be done with it, regardless of the mess
or collateral damage.
2) Puzzler: someone who likes to be creative and make it so that no
one is sure how the person was killed.
3) Death: someone who always makes it look like natural causes, or an
accident. No one would ever suspect murder.

Then there could be different types of finesse, motivation, weapons,
and so forth. Then each assassin could be a combination or permutation
of those classes.
