Here's my uneducated guess on what happened:

1) The database server failed. Aldie started the backup process of
putting the database on a backup server (the first 14 hour recover).
2) The next day, it was determined that the server failed due to bad
memory.
3) The database became corrupted because of the bad memory.
4) Dell support came through with a new memory stick. The hardware was
back to normal. But the database was not.
5) Aldie was forced to recover the database to the primary server,
overwriting the corrupt copy.
6) The database recovery didn't work. The failover system failed (this
is usually discovered only when you NEED it).

That might explain 2 days of work!
