So, the past few years, I've been re-introduced to non-computer
gaming. It started with Carcassonne and Catan, unsurprisingly, which
I've played on a regular basis for the last couple of years (Though I
much prefer Carcassonne).

Over Christmas, I picked up Race for the Galaxy and Agricola, and have
put in 4 plays of both of them, and like them quite a bit. Agricola
was a lot to comprehend with no significant assistance (I played my
first game from the rulebook, unassisted, and got a number of things
wrong, but am playing it correctly now). I'm fine with the concept of
heavier games, but need something reasonably accessible if I'm going
to be able to get friends to play (Almost all of the ones I've gotten
to play Agricola liked it quite a lot, and some of them hadn't even
played Catan - in fact, of all the new people I've played with, the
one that did best was a complete non-gamer!)

The games I got were more card games than board games (but in large
quantity!) with an eye towards mostly accessible things that I'll be
able to get people in to... the heavier stuff will be mixed in. In
the game night that seems to be organizing, looks like there will be
one central/long game that we play (Agricola) once, and then some
lighter fare for those who are up for it.

So, I have:

Agricola
Race For the Galaxy
Carcassonne

I have available:
Catan
Guillotine
Ten Days in Africa
Warhammer
Lost Cities
Ticket to Ride - I'm not a big fan of this. I'd rather play
Carcassonne, TDIA, or something else - something with more depth might
be OK but I don't love the train theme either)
Various common games (MindTrap, Cranium, Apples to Apples, Monopoly,
etc)

I have coming in the next couple of weeks:
Dominion
Catan card game - I know Catan fairly well but don't love it. How
refreshing is it from the normal game?
Citadels - Meatier than most of the others here - how is it to learn?
Coloretto
No Thanks!
Tichu
Agora
Devil Bunny Hates the Earth
Devil Bunny Needs a Ham
Jacob Marley, Esq.
Saboteur
En Garde! - This interested me, looks like fun, occasional, light
filler
Cube Farm
Dead Money
Spree! - Classic Edition
Freeloader Box Set
Pirates of the Cursed seas - Got some packs to make ~30-40 ships
with. Will probably make some house rules to attempt to offset some
randomness, but keep it light. And I like the little models.
Light Speed - This one excites me far more than its price was. Some
of the other cheapass games I was less enthused about but couldn't say
no at $2-5 a piece.

Uh... I bought that all at once. Do I have a problem?

As you can see, a lot of cheapass games, some fluff, and a few things
of significant depth. My first priorities are Dominion, Light Speed,
and the Catan card game. Looks like most of these won't take long to
get a handle of, but Tichu seems like something that is a bit more
involved.

So, from the perspective of that that I need to learn these before I
teach them to other newbies, they need to be light enough for them to
enjoy, but they're smart people and something with some depth isn't
going to put them. I'll probably end up with Power Grid pretty soon
too, and Die Macher calls for the future. ha ha.
