BGG.con is not really all about the avatars, even if they help. It's completely gamer-centric, not vendor-centric, so it's a great place to play games. No buying tickets to play in scheduled events or any of that madness: You get to play any game they have any time you want. You can easily find opponents for any game you want. If you want to spend time in a convention playing instead of just buying games at MSRP or playing small demos at vendor stands, BGG.con is the best con there is.
