You'll probably notice that stores that offer free shipping usually charge a similar amount compared to other stores that charge for shipping - if you include shipping.
Amazon is a good example on this. Because they do free shipping on anything over $25, they price any medium size items and above with that in mind (Also, you generally won't find amazing prices for small items). You can clearly see this in the prices they charge. Some Amazon examples: Catan - $31 or so - Boards and Bits - $26 Power Grid - $35, B&B - $28 Axis and allies anniversary ed - $90 - B&B - $82.50 The list goes on and on. Add in that Amazon will happily ship you five packages for five items, and you can see why their free shipping is limited to the kindness of their hearts. And the free shipping options from boards and bits? All on more expensive, higher margin items.
